Odyssey 2010: Sea-To-Shining-Sea New |
A NOTE TO ALL WHO HAVE EXPRESSED INTEREST IN S-2-S-S:
This note is addressed to all of you who have shared the excitement of planning this adventure with us, many of you from its earliest moments. Your enthusiasm and encouragement in no small measure is responsible for our excitement and commitment to move ahead with this project. The time has come to elevate Odyssey 2010: Sea-to-Shining-Sea from a fuzzy topic of conversation to an exciting reality. Believe it or not, this adventure is for real – we are riding across the continent in 2010, from the northwestern tip of Washington’s Olympic shoreline to Bar Harbor, ME – 57 days, 3,891 miles.
And so, in the spirit of converting fantasy into a personal reality for each of you (and to assist us significantly with all of the administrative and logistical issues involved in a project of this nature), the moment has arrived to commit, or not. Cost for this program is $16,000 (as many of you know, our heart skips a beat whenever we mention this figure). All of your vet and group discounts apply, as they would for all of our programs. Included in this cost are 57 nights lodging (includes the assembly night and final night in Bar Harbor), all breakfasts and dinners, van support, leaders, transport of any bike cases from Washington to Bar Harbor in time for your departure, all park entrance fees, tour maps and narratives – PLUS – a commemorative cycling jersey to replace all of those Ciclissmo rags that always seem to make it into our catalog.
We will cap our group size at a maximum of 24 participants. If we reach this number, we’ll support the group with four leaders and two vans.
So – how does one best and most effectively express a desire to become a part of this extraordinary adventure? A deposit – NOT MORE than the standard $300 works (we were tempted to accept the equivalent value in Starbuck’s cards, but the enduring health of our enterprise zapped that option), along with a Registration Form. Mail, telephone (800-417-2453), or e-mail (timber@earthnet.net) and we’ll collaborate with you to complete the process.
Several of you have expressed an interest in partial participation (whatever that is?). In other words, 57 days on a bike is neither tempting nor possible for some, who plan to join us for a designated segment. By way of example, some plan to join us on Day 27 in Brainerd, Minnesota, and ride with us to Bar Harbor. We have a layover day in Brainerd with easy shuttle transportation from the Minneapolis airport. Costs for segments will be on a pro-rated (per/night) basis – don’t hesitate to contact us for clarification.
We’re including a copy of the latest revised itinerary. The most noteworthy changes are the inclusions of the assembly night prior to our Day 1 departure, and an additional night (in Bar Harbor) and day (Day 57) to tour Acadia National Park before our afternoon departure for the Portland airport.
Hopefully we’ve covered enough of the nuts-and-bolts issues to ignite your passion and excitement. Come join us for what we truly believe will be our collective and shared ultimate adventure of our lives.
