Every cyclist asks himself or herself each year, how do I get ready for the riding season? Will spinning at the gym with the occasional cold ride get me ready? Well this year… accelerate, start this season strong start by joining Timberline for a 5 day cycling camp in the legendary Northern California Bay Area. And we will be a stylishly outfitted unit with custom jerseys for the event.
The Bay Area is a perfect place for cycling in general and multi day bike trips. There is good weather, a vast array of terrain and scenery, and great cycling roads that are virtually unknown outside the area. Though the Tour of California’s heavy exposure of some of our favorite routes could blow our insider advantage. The Santa Cruz Mountains will provide the backdrop for a glorious, challenging week. We will ride 277 miles with a total elevation gain of over 30,000 feet with some of the most beautiful riding you will ever experience.
This is different than other Timberline cycling tour, as we stay in just two locations; the valley and Santa Cruz by the beach. We will enjoy great food, comfortable lodging and the sometimes wacky, always entertaining culture of the area. If you have a spouse who doesn’t ride, bring’em! There are hikes, shopping, spa’s and more close at hand.
For the first two days, we will ride from the inland side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, while there we will conquer Hwy 9 from Saratoga, Zayante Rd, San Jose Soquel Rd, La Honda and the pro’s favorite Tunitas Creek. Then it is off to the beach, Day 3 we climb up and over to Santa Cruz and the beach while dispatching the Eureka Canyon Rd climb. Day 4 is what we have been building for: 10,000 ft of climbing over a metric century (80 miles). Next day, it is off to Los Gatos for a great lunch, after dispatch the infamous Eureka Canyon climb, it is a Timberline cyling tour after all.
